Dear Neighbor,

My name is Ann Skoe and I am running for Beltrami County Commissioner of  District 1. It would be an honor to earn your vote and represent your voice and all of the voices of the beautiful southeastern part of our county. I will serve our community with integrity and ensure the work of our Beltrami County Board is carried out properly and transparently.

I first moved to my home in Frohn Township in 1995. Working at the Headwaters Science Center, I learned the value of partnerships among entities. I learned how to seek out funding and that amazing things can be accomplished with a small budget.  

As a teacher at many different schools, including public, charter, online, and homeschool groups, I learned many facets of leadership. I experienced how the services that counties provide affect people. I learned how to run efficient meetings.

In my work with Peacemaker Resources, I learned how to include all voices. I especially learned about the needs of people involved in childcare in Northwestern Minnesota.

In the three and half decades that I have worked with the Concordia Language Villages, I have worn many different hats. Years of being a lifeguard and leading canoe trips have taught me to be proactive about safety and prepared for emergencies. I continue to learn the importance of recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and retaining employees. I understand how critical it is to have clear policies that are implemented well. I know the importance of all departments in an organization working together to carry out the mission. 

Working with Apple Blossom, I continue to see how children flourish when they have safe, healthy, beautiful places to play.  

And at Pine Pals I experience the value of connecting generations. 

In my professional life, I am an educator committed to guiding people of all ages, all abilities, and all backgrounds to learn and grow as they connect to and care for their communities and the natural world. 

In my personal life, I love being outside in all of our Northern Minnesota seasons, on the ski trails, swimming in the lakes, gardening, and walking my dog.  I am also a fervent supporter of the arts.

I am passionate about learning languages and understanding cultures.  I spent more than 10 years of my youth in Germany. I studied Spanish. And I speak French. I only know a little Anishinaabemowin, but I love how I hear and read more and more of the language in public

My late husband and I raised our three children here.  My commitment to our community is deep. I want to use my experience, skills, and compassion to care for our home and people. 

I humbly ask for your support. I pledge to work relentlessly for Beltrami County.
